English and Scottish barometers from the 18th and 19th centuries are supremely decorative objects and were made in a surprisingly wide variety of designs. They also give insight into the scientific world of instrument makers, such as Jesse Ramsden and George Adams, who constructed astronomical telescopes and other apparatus for the observatories of Europe.
