A Regency Waterfall Bookcase in solid rosewood
We have another dwarf waterfall bookcase, this time in rosewood rather than mahogany. Once again it resembles the example on page 232 of the Norman Adams book especially in profile and in the use of contrasting stringing (boxwood) as decoration. However this time there is no drawer, which makes room for 4 shelves instead of 3. The rosewood has faded to an unusually pale shade, but has not become bleached.
There are short square tapering legs with castors, plus side carrying handles. All the metalwork is original and retains some of the original gilding. Date: 1800-1805. Size: 42” high, 20” wide, 10” deep. |
